Announcing Brent Comber at ODI Gallery

Acclaimed for his solid wood furniture and design environments, Brent Comber bears beyond these boundaries to continue his exploration of natural materials indigenous to the west coast. Through art and sculpture, he invites us to consider how we approach, assess, and understand these natural forms.

"Designing furniture is very satisfying, but for the last year or so I've wanted to commit to the artistic side of my work," says Brent, a fourth generation Vancouverite who grew up on the city's North Shore. "The material I use, such as cedar, alder and maple, is so simple, yet so powerful. We have such a strong connection to it here on the coast, and I wanted to be free to follow my intuition wherever it led. I think ODI is a wonderful venue for this work, too, as it offers such a casual and accessible environment."

Brent will be joining the ranks of Canadian designers currently on show at ODI, including clay artist Tanis Saxby, contemporary First Nations artist Corrine Hunt, and Ornamentum Furniture.

"We are delighted that Brent has chosen the ODI Gallery as the home for the public launch of his art and sculpture," says ODI Gallery director Jeff Hunt.
